While was looking for photos to represent the Winter Solstice for the first day of winter, I found this beautiful white peacock that reminded me of a white sunshine, which then reminded me of the dazzling white of snow, which has yet to appear in the Northeast. We can blame it on global warning or Mother Nature’s quirkiness, but either way, we can look for ways to lighten our carbon footprint.

While today signifies the first day of winter, it also means that our days will gradually become longer and perhaps by the end of January, those of us in the Northeast won’t be in the dark by 4:30 pm. In Florida, where I was last week, night came a bit later because we were further south, so I am keeping that memory in my head!
P.S. When I Googled the exact date and time of the Winter Solstice, I learned that you can find out the exact time of the solstice in the city you live. Here in Philadelphia it starts today, Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:49 PM EST. To find out the exact time of the solstice in your city, go to www.timeanddate.com.
