Avi in her Wild Mantle
KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR THE MANTLE, A NEW SUSTAINABLE WINTER ACCESS
Social entrepreneur Avi Loren Fox premiers the MANTLE, a luxurious hooded scarf made sustainably in the USA.
NARBERTH, PA (November 24, 2014) — Just in time for winter, social entrepreneur Avi Loren Fox launched a Kickstarter Campaign to officially introduce her enterprise, the MANTLE (www.WildMantle.com), a luxurious hooded scarf made sustainably in the USA. She aims to raise $30,000 in 34 days to invest in the production of the first batch of MANTLEs. The Kickstarter campaign concludes December 24, 2014.
The young entrepreneur initially desired a combination hoodie/scarf a couple years ago, but couldn’t find a similar product in stores. “I decided to make one out of old sweaters,” explains Fox. After people stopped her and said “What is that? I want one!” the idea for her company Wild Mantle and the signature MANTLE accessory was born.
Fox named the hooded scarf she created a MANTLE for two reasons. “Not only is ‘mantle’ an ancient word for a loose fitting hood or cloak, but the term also connotes one’s role or responsibility in the world,” says Fox. Her mantle is to launch a company rooted in her commitment to environmental and social responsibility. She invites others to carry out their personal mantles and form a community around the physical MANTLE accessory.
Under the mentorship of socially-conscious cosmetics entrepreneur Josie Maran, Fox spent the past two years creating Wild Mantle, a hooded-scarf enterprise offering a unique brand alchemy of sustainability, empowerment, and adventure. The MANTLE will be manufactured by IceBox, a certified B-Corporation knitting mill based in Colorado. The MANTLEs will be made out of undyed alpaca yarn from Peru, black minky fleece, artisan-made organic cotton tags, and a unique trio of recycled buttons.
Fox is a social innovation fellow at StartingBloc as well as a Udall Scholar and an active member of the Sustainable Business Network of Philadelphia. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Temple University Honors Program in 2010. She serves as a mentor to young “creative” in the Philadelphia area and enjoys guest speaking on social entrepreneurship.
Since the campaign started, Wild Mantle has received a celebrity shout out from Kat Dennings on her Twitter and Instagram. The MANTLE has been featured in Philadelphia Magazine’s BeWellPhilly, as included in gift guides on GreenPhillyBlog and PhillyEcoCities.
