By 2050, the world’s population will reach 9 Billion. Can you imagine a world where they all have access to plentiful, fresh, nutritious food?
The way things are going – they won’t. The current trend is a food system that is making us sick. The way food is produced is wasting energy, destroying our environment, and depleting vital natural resources including soil, water and the diversity of plants and animal. More and more people have no access to healthy food. Meanwhile, our government has been supporting policies that destroy our global food system.
Nourish 9 Billion aims to create a movement of informed, educated and motivated consumers where the voice of every individual, every school, every parish, every organization makes a difference. More importantly, it calls on the United States, the world’s most powerful supporter of industrial agriculture, to lead the global charge to address these issues at the U.N. Summit for Sustainable Development (Rio+20) this June.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Health Organization, and the World Bank, among others, bluntly stated that, “Business as usual [a.k.a. industrial farming] is not an option.†The momentum is building. The time is now. Help us change the future for food and farming for all of mankind.
Sincerely,

UN SUMMIT for Sustainable Development
“Business as usual is not an optionâ€, claimed the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD). This 4-year assessment endeavor was commissioned by the World Bank and six United Nations agencies, and it involved some 400 scientists around the world.
This June, when nations of the world gather in Rio for the U.N. Summit for Sustainable Development (Rio+20), they will have the opportunity to address the failings of the global food system. Let’s do everything in our power to make sure that they commit to implementing the public policies that we need, as suggested by IAASTD, in order to ensure that our planet will nourish us abundantly for generations to come.
Please demand that the United States, the world’s most powerful supporter of industrial agriculture, show up at Rio+20 next June with a strong commitment to the five requests for policy and regulatory changes that are spelled out in the petition letter. They address antibiotics, perverse subsidies, food sovereignty, animal by-products and the commitment to agroecology.
Go to nourish9billion.org to join the movement, to partake in the conversation about our food system, to take this campaign to your community.

Glad you approve! Not always sure I should in case people are offended by politics of food, but I think it is a big issue. ellensue
I also feel strongly about this food issue. We must ensure food safety worldwide.
