Looking at my spice cabinet, you can see there is no lack of jars and bottles of herbs and spices. But ever since I purchased Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute, it is the first jar I grab when I want to flavor my veggies or salad, especially when I am not creating an original recipe and just cooking for myself. Of course, once summer comes, I hope to have my herb garden flourishing on the patio, but even so, I think I am hooked on this concoction that includes the following 21 ingredients:

Onion, black pepper, celery seed, cayenne pepper, parsley, basil, marjoram, bay leaf, oregano, thyme. savory, rosemary, cumin, mustard, coriander, garlic, carrot, orange peel, tomato granules, lemon juice powder, oil of lemon, citric acid.

In addition, the herbs are not irradiated*(See Glossary) and there is no sugar or salt. Try it on salads, steamed veggies, and even eggs…anywhere you want to wake up your taste buds. Oh my! I think I’m in love with Trader Joe.

*For more information on irradiated food, go to http://www.citizen.org/ and type in food irradiation in the search box for a list of articles. The one I pulled up was:

The Problems with Irradiated Food: What the Research Says

This is the introductory paragraph:

“In the course of legalizing the irradiation of beef, chicken, pork, fruit, vegetables,
eggs, juice, spices and sprouting seeds – a process that has spanned nearly 20
years – the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has dismissed or ignored a substantial
body of evidence suggesting that irradiated food may not be safe for human
consumption. The following is a sampling of research – appearing in scientific journals
and other publications – that raise questions about the FDA’s assertions that people
who eat irradiated food have nothing to worry about.”
