One Earth Day Every Day Example of Making a Difference

Last month or so I started emailing and snail mailing companies that make good products but still use plastic containers, even if they are recyclable, since so much of our plastic does not actually get recycled.

One place I wrote to was a company named ECOS who manufactures Plant Powered Laundry Detergent Squares, approximately 5″ X 6″ to throw into your washing machines, which I purchased as a backup to my ecological laundry powder.

The package came in a box. (Great!) The squares look like compressed soap made without dyes, formaldehyde, Phthalates, 1,4 Dioxane and never tested on animals. (Also great!)

I opened the package and much to my dismay, the squares were sitting in a plastic container. (Not so great!) I wrote them and received a wonderful email and a new box of ECOS without the plastic holder. (Wonderful!)

The customer services rep said they would soon be in all the stores in their
new, plastic-free box. I am not sure of other customers complained or the company did this without prompting. Either way, thank you ECOS.

You see, each person can make a difference!
