Food Democracy Time-Sensitive Petition

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015

Dear Friend,

Breaking: The Monsanto Protection Act is Back and WORSE than ever! Once again Monsanto and giant food companies are scheming behind the scenes to pass a bill in Congress that would kill mandatory GMO labeling efforts and replace it with a gutted version that will preempt states’ rights and give the illusion of oversight. This week the House of Representatives is expected to vote on an Orwellian bill, the so-called “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act” (H.R. 1599) that would make it illegal for states to pass common sense GMO labeling and now also prohibits states or counties from banning or regulating GMOs in any way.

The vote will take place this Thursday and we need all hands on deck to stop the Ultimate Monsanto Protection Act and convince members of Congress not to violate state’s rights in an effort to kill GMO labeling. This plan is so devious that it radically speeds up the approval process for new GMO crops; limits the FDA and USDA’s ability to conduct premarket safety reviews; declares GMO foods “safe” and allows GMOs to be labeled Natural!

I signed this petition. You may wish to do so as well, even though the deadline has passed.

This is a blatant power grab to deny Americans their basic right to mandatory GMO labeling and protect flawed GMO products – and we can’t allow them to get away with it. We need your help today. Every voice counts!

BREAKING: We just got word that a final deal has been cut in Washington DC between corporate lobbyists and the U.S. Senate to move forward with the Fast Track agreement for the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), the disastrous trade deal that will destroy our basic democratic rights to protect corporate profits! Tragically, the TPP could make make it illegal to label GMOs in the U.S. and Europe.

From gmoanswers.com: GMO List: Currently, eight crops from GM seeds are commercially available in the United States: corn (field and sweet), soybeans, cotton, canola, alfalfa, sugar beets, papaya and squash. It is also worth noting that no commercially available crops in the United States were created by nature alone. Humans, over our history, have altered all of our crops, often for taste or yield or disease resistance. More information about the history of crop modification is available in our Explore the Basics section. (Go to website) You can peruse GMO Answers for many related questions and responses about topics, such as what GM products you might find in your local grocery produce department and when GM crops became commercially available in the U.S.
