Protecting Awesome Autumn

Trees are one of our most precious renewable natural resources. Not so coincidentally, a couple days after writing this rhyme, I received a solicitation from American Forests, and on the front of the envelope is this:

The colors of autumn are a gift we can’t waste. Help Protect Our Forests!

(I could not agree more and will post more info about this organization in a  few days.)

Awesome Autumn

As autumn leaves fall softly to the ground…
Slightly burnished, making not one sound.

I celebrate this colorful season,
And Mother Earth for every good reason.

But I need to address all my fears,
So this lovely season never disappears!

Keep planting trees to save the earth,
A lofty effort with priceless worth.

Happy Halloween and Finally Fall

I took this picture when my husband and I went for a walk one fall and spotted several lovely fall displays at a nearby florist shop. This one seems perfect for Halloween.

I took this photo on a fall trip to the Canadian border a few years ago, where the intensity of the fall red colors was like this one. Unfortunately, we have had a somewhat disappointing fall here on the East Coast, possibly as a result of the very cold weather last winter and also perhaps because of a dry spell earlier in the fall. I have just begun to see some beautiful trees here and maybe I will catch some color when I go to Providence, RI this week.

Enjoy the change of seasons & the trick or treating feeling in the air.
