My good friend Amparo, whose birthday is Dec. 1st, while mine is Dec. 2nd, share our birthday every year with cards and little gifts. Amparo knows my love for words and interesting phrases, so this this year I received an adorable T-shirt that says:
Let’s Eat Grandma.
Let’s Eat, Grandma.
COMMAS SAVE LIVES
The T-shirt reminded me of a book I own called Eat, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss, another comma/apostrophe freak that kept me chuckling throughout the book. The sub-title explains her approach to grammar: “The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation.”
The cover shows a panda erasing the comma because the title was meant to explain that pandas bears eat shoots & leaves. (See cover below.)
I remembered another interesting quote that seems perfect for Menupause. Not sure who sent it, but it fits right in with this topic. Here is the quote and if anyone knows the source, please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanx!
A professor of English wrote on the blackboard: “a woman without her man is nothing” and asked the students to punctuate it.
The men in the class wrote: “A woman, without her man, is nothing.”
The women in the class wrote: “A woman: without her, man is nothing.”
Punctuation is everything! Send this to other phenomenal women.
