Dear Readers,

Last year I added MY PICS to MY BOOKS in the line-up on my Home Page (Left margin). My goal was to move items I had tried into that category so readers could order from the company if they wished, but I never found the time to do so. In the meantime, over the years I have been approached by companies to advertise their wares, but because I had not used them, I hesitated to put them on my website.

Now, however, I am thinking about advertising only those items I have used with success. The money is secondary, because for almost 9 years I have not advertised and survived, but I am interested in keeping you posted about products I think work and are environmentally sound.  (See example below.)

Your comments on this topic are keenly needed. Would having ads at the bottom of a posting be offensive to you if the information or product was one that lined up with the philosophy of whole foods, a clean planet, and loving relationships that I have attempted to get across in my postings? Please let me know. I used to think advertising was offensive, but now I realize that without advertising I would not even know that certain products I would use even existed. So an ad about a clean, environmentally safe item would pique my interest. Would it yours?

Thanx, ellensue

Here is an example of a type product I would like to advertise. These are Ayurvedic seasonings (curry powders) that I use in almost all my dishes. I purchased them from my Ayurvedic practitioner at the Kalyana Center in the next town to me, and she would send them to you by mail. I like them, they are perfect accompaniments to my Indian dishes, and they are reasonable in price. But not many people know about them and my ad might make them more available and useful.

What do you think? Here is the photo that would appear in the ad. I would list the ingredients plus the prices, and The Kalyana Center would mail them directly from its inventory. Then when I make a recipe I could refer to them and you would know what I was referring to.

Thanx for your input, ellensue

P.S. The letters V, K, and P refer to the three doshas or body types in Ayurveda: Vata, Kapha and Pitta. Information about the doshas are already on my website and in Prana Mama’s book I reviewed recently, but I would ask the Kalyana Center to create an explanation with the products.

  1. If it’s helpful to you, I think it’s a good idea. So long as the ads don’t overwhelm what is currently a lovely, attractive and simple website.

  2. I think it’s a fine idea. If I could find people who wanted to advertise on my site, I’d let them.

  3. I will keep that in mind, that is, not to overwhelm what I am doing. Thanx for the positive critique of my website. You express my thoughts exactly about not muddying the waters. es

  4. It makes sense to advertise products you are familiar with and have used, and realize they have
    potential beneficial attributes.

  5. I agree with all the others! Keep it simple. Advertise only what you know and have used successfully!
