Port of Entry by Mary Lou Meyers

My college classmate, Mary Lou, writes some great poetry. Here is one with historical overtones
Ship coming into Ellis Island, NY

Port of Entry

Many Ports of Call,
only one Port of Entry,
when women were second class citizens after all,
but then the gates slowly opened for them
to rise like men.
Now the Ports of Call beckon them all,
versatile and wise,
woman first to actualize,
then to realize as wife and mother.
