Sacred Duty
Every morning at 4 amI am awakened by loud noisesOutside my window. It begins with the roar of a truck engine,The crunch of gravel under monster tiresThe truck bed rises with the hydraulicHum of a sacred hymnSacrificially raising a ton of garbage. This the prayer of a millionGarbage containersGoing down the unholy roadTo the landfill altarWhere the world’s wasteWill be offered to the gods.Out of sightOut of mind.
