OrGREENic Non-Stick Fry Pan

For some time I have been concerned about teflon non-stick fry pans. Here is an excerpt from
www. lowfatcooking.about.com.

In early 2006 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) asked eight American companies, including DuPont, maker of Teflon-brand nonstick cookware, to work towards the elimination of PFOA—which they labeled a likely carcinogen—by 2015. PFOA has been shown to cause cancer, low birth weight and a suppressed immune system in laboratory animals exposed to high doses of PFOA. Studies have shown the chemical to be present at low levels in the bloodstream of 9 out of 10 Americans, and in the blood of most newborns. And although the effects of PFOA at lower doses in humans are disputed, there does seem to be a link between PFOA and raised levels of cholesterol. More seriously, some people have claimed that PFOA exposure caused birth defects in babies born to mothers working at a Teflon plant in the early 1980s.

Here are the website’s recommendations:

Using Nonstick Cookware Safely

  • Never leave nonstick pans unattended on an open flame or other heat source
  • While cooking, don’t let temperatures get hotter than 450 degrees
  • Don’t use metal utensils on nonstick cookware
  • Wash nonstick cookware by hand using nonabrasive cleaners and sponges (do not use steel wool)
  • Don’t stack nonstick cookware on top of each other
  • Keep pet birds out of the kitchen (Not sure why this is in here! es)

When I saw the ad for OrGREENic, I purchased one pan and am quite happy with the results. I brush a small amount of oil on the pan and wash it soon after I finish using it. I once cooked something on a very high heat and had to use elbow grease to remove the remains of the food, so now I use medium to medium-high heat.

The website has specials on prices. I think mine was about $20.00 & I am pleased with my purchase. Also, because the handle does not get hot, I don’t need a pot holder. Here’s a photo of my fry pan, which I have been using for several months. It’s still intact, which is good for me, since I tend to stay at the computer, writing, while my dinner burns on the stove, burning my pans!

  1. Thanks for this! I have been considering a green pan but wasn’t sure what to do. Did you order directly from OrGREENic?

  2. Yes, I did. They actually have a special to buy two pans at a discount, but they were both the same size, so I bought only one. Just don;t use ultra high heat with it, because then it is harder to clean. Good luck! es
