Memorial for the USS Arizona, Honolulu, Hawaii
Last night we watched a wonderful documentary about a young woman with her husband and two small children bringing her grandfather’s ashes to rest underwater at the site where the USS Arizona was bombed on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, 1941. According to the program, many sailors who survived the bombing decide to be buried at sea where the USS Arizona lies with those who did not survive on that fateful day.
Additionally, I have been aware of a short “ad” about Paralyzed Veterans of America (https://secure.pva.org/pva/memorial-day). Hearing from service people who survived a war, but not intact (ex. wheelchair bound), I realized that while we had so many fatalities in the wars, there were also survivors who have been helped by the Paralyzed Veterans of America, so I want to honor all the survivors as well as the families who lost loved ones to any war.
Take a few minutes today to thank all service personnel who are committed to keeping us safe.
