Six of us at the Ayurvedic Kalayana Centre near my home in Bala Cynwyd marked this day by watching some episodes from the CBS special (CD) entitled A Path Appears, the same title as the book from which this powerful documentary is made.

Naturally, we wanted to have some snacks for the small gathering, so I served International Dips: Hummus, Yogurt/Dill, and Guacamole. Since The Kalayana Centre is a wonderful place to learn about Ayurveda (Science of Life), with its more than 5,000 year old healing system from India that focuses on body types (doshas) and foods suitable for each body type, I created the recipes to reflect the six tastes emphasized in Ayurveda: sweet, salty, spicy, salty, astringent, and pungent.
According to Ayurveda, eating each of the six tastes every day can help keep your body in balance, which means you can eliminate cravings that may help you lose weight. More importantly, you will be placing you body back in balance so you have the energy needed to live fully and healthfully.
