Earth Day Message

Instead of the 3Rs, we have 5: Reuse, Recycle, Restore, Replenish, Reduce

After sorting through all the information I have on Earth Day, I have decided to make it a regular part of my line-up and have asked my web guru to put another category on the lefthand side of the Home Page entitle Environmental Issues or Earth Day, Every Day. So each month I will have at least one posting on the environment, especially those related to food: organics, pesticides, women farmers, eating lower on the food chain, eating fresh, etc.

One reason for this came accidentally, when my husband was trying to fix something on the TV and Ellen was on. In her opening statement, she talked about Earth day and bemoaned the fact that we should be celebrating it every day, using the logo I have been using: Earth Day, Every Day!

That sealed my decision, not only because I admire Ellen, but because it is an issue that needs to be addressed regularly, whether you believe in Global Warning or not. I actually believe in Global Warning, that is, Mother Nature sending all the heavy storms and environmental issues we are facing to wake us up to the fact that we need to take care of the planet ona daily basis.

So celebrate Earth Day in a positive way, employing at least one of the 5 Rs. I plan to walk to the Post office to mail some letters instead of driving there, shop in a health food store and buy loose organic produce instead of pre-packaged organic produce, and give my compost to a friend starting a garden. (I actually froze some of it so it would not smell up the kitchen.)

Remember, tread lightly on Mother Earth!

  1. Kudos for all your environmental concern and practices.

As Gandhi said, “What little you do may seem insignificant,
but it’s important that you do it.” I believe he was speaking
about the Peace Movement, but it applies, and is certainly
related to earth caring. Oh, to have our swords turned into plowshares!
