EARTH DAY IS TODAY!

Picture from a  greeting card from the National Audubon Society.

Today is Earth Day and I thought I would start posting environmental organizations that put Mother Earth first, and since the name starts with A, I put this origanization first, alphabetically.

(I may not do such a long review for every organizations and in may just list some I am not familiar with, but I think birds are such an inportant part of Mother Earth’s plan that I am giving this organizatioba fullr review.)

A recent letterfrom this organizationn has a great opener: “There is nothing else like birds.” I agree! And since birds’ survival is being threatened by pollutio, pesticides, development, and climate change, the Audubon Society steps in as the world’s defender.  Just as we need clean water, clean air, and safe places to live, so do birds.

According to this organization, nearly half our birds are ay risk for distinction. I did not know that, and I am happy that there is such an organization to  “give birds a fighting chance at survival in a warming world.”

Stated Mission of National Audubon Society

To conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the biological diversity of the earth. Below is the way they spend their donations. (I think 76% is good, but I would like programs to be 85%. Perhaps that is why they only received a B+)

I think this organization, based on theliterature I sent, is conscientious and has good programs, but you decide after looking at their website and perhaps other websites such as Charity Watch.

We need our birds!

(Note: I will be posting these organizations in the next few months, a few at a time ormaybe justone at a time, because Every Day is Earth Day!)
