Early December Happenings

I will be away until Dec. 3rd, so this is a brief review of the beginning of December dates of importance. More after I return….

December 1st is World AIDS Day. When I lived in State College, I volunteered for the AIDS organization and learned a lot about this disease, which is now more manageable because of medical inroads. Butin other countries where medical help is not so available, it is still a major concern. But it is still here and awareness is the key.

My birthday is December 2nd and if my plans that I worked out before I left for California, I should be near Berkeley and getting ready to visit Renee Locke, an artist and calligrapher nearby whose work I have admired for years. My daughter is driving me and I plan to interview Renee and report back later this month.

Here is a sample of one of her cards that she paints and also does the calligraphy.  If you Google Renee Locke you can browse all her wonderful works.

December 10th is Human Rights Day. I plan to be back by then, but still I wanted to post something on this December page.

Here is one of the website  from the United Nations to get you started on what this day is all about:

Happy Birthday, Ellen Sue. Mailed your card last week. Enjoy the trip!

  2. Mary-Lou Meyers Says:

This sounds like an idyllic birthday give seeing your kids and interviewing an artist you admire.
You’ve certainly compressed the states with your frequent visits. The only time we can really understand
any disease whether physical or mental or both is by working side by side with medial people
    and helping those who suffer.

  3. Rosie Says:

    Happy, Happy Birthday!
    Love Renee Locke’s work!

Much love to you and all the ids!
