New Year’s Goals Instead of Resolutions

The New Year inspires people to make “resolutions” that are often broken by February. I prefer the word “goals,” and my goal for 2022 is to examine all my purchases more carefully concerning their plastic  packaging.  I will write about this soon, but this quote (permission granted to reprint) seems appropriate for my 2022 goals. ellensue

 

If you learn from everything that happens, if you use everything as an opportunity to learn and to lift yourself, you will be earning your freedom. So learn from the experience of your life. Set your goals high and go for them, and do not let anyone or anything sidetrack you. Create only the very best things for yourself.

Imagine by John Lennon: 50 Years Ago!

In 1971, fifty years ago, John Lennon recorded his song Imagine, which is also the name of the album. When my creative writing group met last month, one of the prompts was to write about a song you love and the host of our group would play the music that matches the writing. Little did I know that the song would have its 50th anniversary this year. Since I don’t believe in coincidences, I think I needed a reminder by choosing this song. (I learned that John’s wife, Yoko Ono contributed much of the lyrics.)

 

Here is my brief poem:

IMAGINE NO John Lennon!

John Lennon did it best —

Writing the song “Imagine” as a test

To see what other dreamers would join his throng

All the people who want world peace, like his song.

Imagine no religion doesn’t mean less love;

It just means we’re all spiritual beings from above.

Race, color, or creed become totally invisible

And compassion and caring stay indivisible.

John was right, and his legacy still rings true,

Because without our dreams, what would we do?

Ending hunger, practicing Peace, letting go of greed.

Imagine all this after COVID. Isn’t this what we really need?
