Born Under the Sign of Sagittarius

NOTE: This is my first essay under the new category of the same name, which I am also treating as an acronym: ESSAYS- Ellen Sue SAYS. My original intention was to post links to essays that are being published elsewhere. WHYY is planning to post an essay I wrote about hunger in Philadelphia and I will post thelink when it appears. But since today is my birthday, I thought I would create an essay just for this new category. I have actually been celebrating since after Thanksgiving when I received another giraffe for my collection from my son-by-marriage and his partner, the first one I own made from recycled flip-flops that is red, so it is in my red and black kitchen.

Here is a quote from my book The Secret Language of Birthdays by Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers:

“Those born on December 2 are possessed of tremendous spirit…..So magical is their effect that those involved with them may sometimes feel as if they have been hit with a bolo punch….A basic faith in humankind is characteristic of thise born on this day…Life is their God, but life supercharged by belief and daring achievements….Developing their individualism, and both finding and following their spiritual path are the greatest challenges for December 2 people.”

The authors seem to know me well!

I have many friends born under this sign: my friend Amparo, Dec. 1st; my friend Hope, Dec. 3rd; my friend Jack, also Dec. 2nd; my friend Barb, I think Dec. 5th, and several others. Famous people also under this sign include Woody Allen, Julie Harris, Maria Callas, Emily Dickinson, and Frank Sinatra. I think I am in good company.

We Sagitarrians are ruled by the moon and need to watch our tempers. One of the signs is the bow and arrow that shows up in my Daily Om I receive every morning. The messages almost always seem timely.dailyomsign

Finally, on my way home from my birthday lunch with my very close friend Rhoda, I spotted this tree in our parking area and thought that even with most of the leaves gone, those that are left are gloriously colorful and seem to firt the meditation from the birthday book for Dec. 2nd.

True greatness may be found in the humblest places.

I am humbled by all the wonderful comments from you, my readers, and that makes me feel great!

Your acronym ESSAYS is very clever. That book certainly describes you. By the way, the boys loved your giraffe puppets and immediately started playing with them. Wonderful new giraffe. Happy Birthday.

Glad you like the acronym and that the boys like the giraffe puppets. It was hard to part with them, but my new giraffe in red offers a new replacement. ellensue
