Bayer deserves your vote in the Corporate Hall of Shame
In a historic ruling this month, a jury found Monsanto fully liable for $289 million in health damages caused by its herbicide, Roundup.
Though Monsanto is suffering negative press in the wake of the verdict, they were recently given the green light to merge with seed and pesticide giant Bayer, and Bayer intends to drop the Monsanto name.
In 2015, the World Health Organization determined that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsantoâs flagship herbicide Roundup, is a “probable human carcinogen.” Ever since, Monsanto has been waging an all-out war to discredit and undermine science, researchers and their findings.
However, the recent victory in the courts signals the beginning of real change â a loosening of the grip that corporations have held over food and farming for far too long. But weâre determined not to let Monsantoâs wrongdoings go unnoticed as the company is absorbed into Bayer.
