New Year’s Wishes

Friday, December 31st, 2010

In addition to wishing you a Happy, Healthy New Year, I would like to make a list of my wishes for 2011 and invite you to make your own list of wishes to strive for. I have also included my friend Barb’s message on her store’s website: www.freshlife.com. It’s a great companion to the wish list. Also, I have included some interesting food pictures that someone sent me, just for brightening your day and hopefully the coming year.

Personal Wish List for 2011

1. I wish to be able to see more of my friends in the year 2011. As I get older, I realize that friendship becomes more and more important to my well-being.
2. I wish to continue my search for a health-producing lifestyle so that my days are not spent sitting in doctor’s offices or recuperating in bed from an overwhelming illness. This includes such things as keeping my weight within normal limits, my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. all in line with my age.
3. I wish to find increased satisfaction and clarity in my writing. Should I try to get Menupause printed as a book, or would my energy be better spent continuing to blog?
4. I wish to listen more and talk less. As someone said, we have two ears and one mouth, so we need to listen twice as much as we speak. I have always had a motor mouth and would like the motor to slow down.

5. I wish to stay connected with my children, despite their distances from me. I also wish they would stay connected with one another more.
6. I wish to expand my loving relationship with my husband of six years.  Being married after 13 years of  being single, preceded by 30 years of marriage has been a difficult transition for me at times, and I wish for patience to accomplish the first part of the wish.
7. I wish that everyone on the planet has enough to eat, since I believe that is a human right. To this end I will investigate more organizations that are involved in food issues.
8. I wish to expand my love of yoga to include attending yoga class on a regular basis, instead of hit or miss. It is the one type of exercise I never tire of doing.
9. I wish to become more non-judgmental. At yoga class last week, the teacher said, “Breathe in acceptance; breathe out judgment.” Perfect!

Beyond New Year’s Resolutions by Barb Jarmoska

No matter what New Year’s resolutions you may (or may not) be planning to make – you no doubt have goals for your life and things that you hope to accomplish. According to motivational writer Keith A. Shaw, the 7 steps below can increase your odds of success no matter what your New Year’s resolutions or life goals may be.

1) Self-discipline
Those who have the ability to do what is required without needing to be poked, prodded or ordered to by someone else will win every time. Gain control of your mind, body and emotions by developing self-mastery. Paraphrasing Yoda from the Star Wars films, “Do, or do not, there is no try”.

2) Strong support system
Success leaves clues. Locate and develop a strong network of trusted and successful friends and associates that you can rely on 100% to give you honest, productive feedback as you navigate the roads on your success journey.

3) Courage
Develop the confidence and courage that allows your mind to use its full power – in any circumstance. Overcome the fear of asking for what you want or the answer will always be no.

4) Commitment
If anything is worth doing, it is worth doing well. Your brain is the reservoir of your energy. Most people have the energy and capability to accomplish goals, but they must also have the “director” to focus that energy and channel it appropriately. With every thing you do, you either advance or lose valuable ground.

5) Enthusiasm / Energy
Close your eyes and visualize your dreams and desires as your true destiny and reality. This simple exercise will give you an infusion of enthusiasm, excitement and energy to attain your purpose.

6) Self-Respect and respect of others
When you concentrate your mind to improve your true self, you develop focus and a sense of purpose simultaneously. Likewise, look for the gifts, talents and inherent good in all those you meet. See your interactions with others as a way to both learn valuable lessons in life and also to be a blessing to others.

7) Stick-To-It-Tive-Ness
No matter how long the journey, those who have perseverance to stay the course will succeed. It is said that Edison tried over 900 different components unsuccessfully before coming up with his working version of the light bulb. Be tenacious and persevere.

May you find joy in the journey as you manifest you dreams and desires in 2011.

(Feeling fat! I think I gained 3 pounds in the last couple of weeks and since we are going away in 2 weeks, I want to take it off, so I will decrease my portions, esp. fruit & bread, and increase my exercise. Also want to keep up my 6 glassesof water per day.)
9:30 a.m. Nori wrap (seaweed used for sushi) with tahini, lettuce and sprouts
11:45 a.m. Black beans from last night (Good source of both protein and good carbs), 1/2 carrot and some sprouts.
2:30-3 p.m. apple followed by a green smoothie with more lettuce and less fruit (raspberries & mango)
5:30 p.m. Salad: radicchio, lettuce, carrot, artichoke hearts, sprouts plus a dish of diced & cooked delicata squash(sub. carrots) cut  cauliflowerettes and broccoli tops with grilled tofu & mushrooms seasoned with garlic & Bragg’s aminos. (I simmered these in my soup stock and by the time the dish was done (20 min or so), the broth was almost gone. Feel free to add oil atthe end. Also, a side dish of rice.
Note: Keep in mind that I cook for myself mostly, since my husband is a carnivore who does not love veggies. So when I buy a delicata squash, I may eat it almost every day until it is used up, but you are free to sub. other veggies. Same for greens. I buy 2 kinds of lettuce one week and maybe two other kinds the next.
