Flowers growing on a sunny wall of a house on the Amalfi Coast, Italy

Having just returned from Italy and downloaded more than 300 photos, I was not sure which I should pick, and decided the flowers along the winding road on the Amalfi Coast got my vote! Italy was an amazing adventure, which I hope to share with you throughout the month of June. I kept a journal and will pull excerpts to go with many of the photos.

But now I am back in the good old USA and want to post some articles related to Italy as well as general postings. I will say that the food in Italy was very fresh, even at the Auto Grills, which can be found along the autostrade, equivalent to our turnpikes. But the food was well above what we are fed on our highways. Here is a photo of fruit I took at one of the lunches at the Auto Grill:

While on vacation I did have time to do some reading. One of the books I read was Falling in Love Again by Monica Morris, PhD. It is a book I wish had been published when I was single and dating again after 30 years of marriage. If you are in that situation, or know someone who is, this may be just the book for you.

Since many of you may be going on vacation, I thought I would do some research on jet lag, because we definitely felt it since returning home. That may be my topic for Health Flashes. Here is a definition from Wikipedia. The grey lettering will link you to more on that topic when you are actually on Wikipedia’s website: www.wikipedia.copm.

Jet lag, medically referred to as desynchronosis, is a physiological condition which results from alterations to the body’s circadian rhythms; it is classified as one of the circadian rhythm sleep disorders. Jet lag results from rapid long-distance transmeridian (east–west or west–east) travel, as on a jet plane. The condition of jet lag may last several days, and a recovery rate of one day per time zone crossed is a fair guideline.

I also plan to review my favorite hotel of all the places we stayed. It is called the Holiday Hotel and sits on the side of the mountains along the Amalfi Coast.

I know there is much more information in my summer folder to post in June, but my brain is still not functioning 100%, so that information will be posted as I find it. In the meantime,  here is a photo of me with one of the “live statues” found in almost every place we went. This one is of Charlie Chaplin and he did move to take the picture, smacking his lips as if to kiss me.

CIAO!

* I found this expression in the novel I am reading: Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler, author of The Accidental Tourist.

Post-Earth Day Bouquet

Tulips & daffodils standing
proud and tall…

Pure beauty, that’s all, that’s all!

Branches blooming pink and white–
Ah, Spring, a gardener’s delight!

I love the Fall with leaves ablaze,

But Spring receives my highest praise….

A rainbow of flowers bobbing in the breeze;

Take time to enjoy them, won’t you please?

For in the blossoms of Spring each year
Hope & Faith once more appear…

It’s a new beginning, a renewal of LIFE.
Let’s keep Mother Earth from environmental strife.

Spring can never be too long,
I savor the bouquet of her rainbow song.
