World Food Day: Dining on Frankenfoods?
My friend Barb, owner of Freshlife Foods, posted this article & request on her website: www.freshlife.com. It is a perfect piece for World Food Day, which is Monday, October 24th. Please clickon the link to sign the petition by World Food Day and see the video. Ellensue
Agribusiness giant Monsanto thinks it’s OK for you and your family to eat foods that have been genetically spliced with the herbicide Round-Up. Known as Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and nicknamed Frankenfoods, the Food and Drug Administration does not require food processors and manufacturers to notify consumers of GMO ingredients. Unless you’re eating 100% organic, it’s a safe bet you are eating GMOs.
According to the Congressional Research Service, 60 to 70 percent of processed foods available in American grocery stores now contain some genetically engineered ingredients. These ingredients are prevalent in name brand breakfast cereals, cookies, chips, sweetened soda, frozen meals and more.
We believe this lack of labeling requirement is wrong, and applaud the Environmental Working Group and 300 other organizations that have launched the Just Label It campaign. This crusade hopes to garner enough public support that the FDA will change its ruling and require genetically modified foods to be labeled.
The Just Label It campaign has produced a video called Dining in the Dark, and created a petition that will go to the FDA. Please help the FDA to get the message!
