Last January I profiled Joan Waldbaum for her feats of swimming at the Maccabi games in Australia two years ago. In the swimming competition this past December in Argentina, Joan outdid herself, winning six more medals, which are duly draped around her neck. In addition, in May of this year, Joan will be inducted into the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame with six other athletes. Kudos to Joan for continuing to excel in her sport of choice while in her seventies! She’s proof that age is no barrier to excellence, endurance, and passion.

P.S. This photo was taken in her apartment when she invited me to swim in the indoor pool at her condominium. Joan swims like a fish, smooth and strong.
