This ‘n That

Red leafy bush at Huntington Gardens
After walking through Huntington Botanical Gardens near Los Angeles, we went to the gift shop. There I purchased a lovely little book called Huntington Lyrics, which is a slender book of poems written by members of the Live Poets’ Society at the Huntington Library, located on the garden grounds. (Cost $7.00) Here is one of my favorite poems, followed by a photo of my husband Alan and me in the marvelous and huge Desert Garden inside the main garden, which was the most interesting to us, because we have nothing like this in our part of the country.
A Huntington Walk
Let’s walk through the gardens
give ourselves the gift of time,
the grace of movement.
Let’s put our sheltered selves
among the roses,
let our freeway eyes roam
fresh and free. let our TV stare widen into wonder
at the mesh of life
that roots and struts and flies
and burrows…
Everywhere something lives and is akin to us.
Let’s walk today and celebrate
all that is not us.
