Friends of the Earth Petition on Organic Farming

I know many of us are watching the Olympics, but this petition seems too important not to post today. Thanx to friend Honey for sending it. (It may bleed into the right hand margin.)

Tell the USDA: Support MORE organic farming! Go to action.foe.org to sign the petition. (If there is another email address in the box, just delete and use your email. I could not get the link to be copied.)

Organic farming protects people, pollinators and other living things. But it makes up less than 1% of America’s farmland. Meanwhile, industrial ag is harming our health, our climate and our environment.

It’s time to change that.

Say NO to industrial ag and YES to more organic farmland!

The science is clear. Organic farming protects farm workers and people like us from toxic pesticides. It’s more profitable for farmers. And it conserves the soil, water and biodiversity that we need to feed the world for generations to come.

But the reality is on most of our farmland, pesticides hurt the soil, synthetic fertilizers pollute our water, and the government is giving the okay to even more GMO crops.

The Obama administration has taken steps to support organic. But it’s not enough. We need smarter food and farm policies to expand healthy, sustainable organic farming.

Tell the USDA: Do more to support sustainable organic farming, not pesticides and GMOs.

Many people across the country still don’t have access to or can’t afford organic food. This is unacceptable.

We all have a right to eat food free of toxic pesticides. And the farmers and farm workers who grow our food have a right to not be exposed day in and day out to chemicals linked to cancer, asthma and other serious health problems.

With greater public investment, we can make organic more affordable and accessible for everyone. But we need your help to make that a reality!

Demand that the government step up to support increased access to safe, healthy organic food!

Standing with you,
Dr. Kendra Klein,
