SPRING into March/April 2016

Tulips are one of the early signs of Spring. Taken @ Longwood Gardens a couple years ago.

When I see March on the calendar, I know winter is almost over, even it really isn’t! But the word March is linked to the green of St. Patrick’s Day for me and green links to Spring. And April 2oth  is next after March. I count on April for good weather starting. Anyway, that’s how I see it.  Since I will be have been away much of February, hopefully I will escape the worst of the cold.

In addition to St. Pat’s Day in March and the first day of Spring in April, there are other days of possible celebration or acknowledgement for these two months. Bellows a list of March events. I will list April events at the beginning of next month.

March 13th– Daylight Savings starts – Yay!

March 17th– St. Patrick’s Day

March 21st– International Day of Forests and World Poetry Day

Weekend of March 25th– Good Friday & Easter

March 31st: Cesar Chavez Day

For the month March I would like to feature recipes that focus on greens, such as lettuces, kale, chard, broccoli, etc. These foods will be coupled with other veggies for colorful dishes to welcome Spring. Here is a spring salad from a previous posting, but more new ones are in the wings.

I will ask my classmate Mary Lou Meyers to pen a rhyme for Spring to celebrate World Poetry Day and perhaps do something for National Forestry Day one day that week as well.  Our National Forests are precious!

More as MARCH starts!
