Martin Luther King’s Birthday: 1/15/1929-4/4/1986

Today is Martin Luther King’s Birthday so I thought I would post his photo and mini-bio as a reminder of this important day in history. I remember the day he was assassinated because it was my brother’s birthday as well as the birthday of my ex-husband. I also remember 1986 as being a terrible year not only because of MLK’s death, but also the assassination of Robert Kennedy.

We live in a world that seems to have gone out of control since I was a child at the end of WWII. I don’t know how we will bring peace in such a scary world, but King’s birthday is a reminder for me that we must make that effort every day to prevent such terrible tragedies as this one.

Thanks for reflecting on MLK and his contributions, in some ways our country seems to even more
divided, especially in hard times, people use discrimination as a means of propping themselves up.
The country was united once in making Joe Lewis, “the Brown Bomber,” the most popular athlete.
There was no racial divide there in their estimation, just a Truism. I wrote a poem a few years ago
which outlined how people still tend to target a black man if there is some infraction of the law.
I will send it to you.
