Dec. 10th- Human Rights Day

December 10th is Human Rights Day, so this list seems like a fitting tribute to a non-profit organization that is concerned with our rights as human beings. However, there are more entries than I feel comfortable listing in one posting, so I will post one or two more lists, hopefully before the end of December.

Also, with the recent death of Nelson Mandela, an international symbol of freedom from oppression, we are reminded of how precious human rights are.

Finally, please check out the last entry (#12) for a special request.

The Gift of Giving on Human Rights Day

Many years ago I was a volunteer for The Hunger Project and learned that it is a privilege to be able to give to those less fortunate than we are. Since I give very small amounts to a few non-profits, I now receive a great number of solicitations because they’ve got my number.

That’s ok, because this has provided me with a list of the organizations & their websites (that solicit me) in case you want to donate. (I have also listed animal rights organizations.) When Charity Navigator info is available (must be a certain size org. to be listed), I will post it. I have starred my favorites.

  1. *The American Association of University Women (AAUW) www.aauw.org – Their goal since 1881 is to protect, educate, advocate, research, and lead so that all women have a fair choice. (4 stars on Charity Navigator)
  2. Note: After reading Half the Sky, which I reviewed last year, (LINK: http://www.menupause.info/archives/11187) I decided I wanted to adopt one woman from Women to Women to help her back on her feet. I am looking for co-sponsors of any amount to help with the $360 needed for one year.

So far, I have collected or been pledged $120 and I plan to pledge a minimum of $60 (2 months support.) Anyone who would like to know more about this circle of women helping one woman, please email me for details about joining our support circle that I am calling Women 4 Woman.

My email is: menupause.info@gmail.com. Many thanx!
